My First Experience: A Return to Self in Sedona
I remember my first trip to Sedona as if it were yesterday. It felt as though my Ancestors were guiding me there, a truly magical experience. I intentionally sought spiritual expansion, eager to connect with my Ancestors for I know I was on a spiritual journey known as the Hero’s Journey. This was my second sweat lodge, but it was profoundly different. This time, I was with the "Goddess Sisters" from Vegas, a group of spiritual women. For the first time in my forty-something years, I understood genuine sisterhood. I felt embraced by women who welcomed me into their hearts and walked with me. We gathered monthly to honor our Ancestors, and the journey to Sedona with them felt like a sacred pilgrimage. My heart danced every step of the way.
During our journey, I reflected on my life and how far I’d come since being a 15-year-old living as an adult on Capital Hill in Seattle, Washington in the early 1987. Arriving in Sedona, I felt like a teenager reborn, but this time, I was among women who treasured each other deeply. It was a golden and divine period in my life.
The first experience gave me the courage for my second sweat lodge. For those unfamiliar, a sweat lodge, especially one reaching 90 degrees Fahrenheit, can be incredibly intense. However, I felt an instant familiarity, as if I had done this in another lifetime, which fueled my desire to participate. The intensity, though expected, became easier the second time. What truly stood out was when Rahielo, our Shaman, granted us permission to enter at our own pace. As I walked towards the door, I felt my Ancestors' gentle presence, whispering "see you inside," "just breathe," and "drink lots of water." My spiritual brother's powerful words echoed: "You got this."
Words cannot fully capture the profound depth of a sweat lodge experience with Shalman Rahielo. I know I recorded some of it in my journal. The fire outside the lodge mirrored the fire within me ready to burn up what no longer served my heart on my spiritual journey. The people who joined the spiritual ceremony instantly felt like family, as if our Ancestors brought us together felt like and souls having a reunion to receive love and remember our soul missions.
Inside the "Sweat Lodge," I felt at home, enveloped in love. It was as if all my Ancestors, including the Galactic ones, visited me, assuring me I was on the right path. Their message was clear: believe in myself, have faith that all is well, and remember to sit in my heart and embrace daily love for self and others.
The magic continues after the sweat lodge. It's as if your old self is shed, and you emerge with a feeling of never being the same. You begin to see life with new eyes, feeling its profoundness and the beauty of love in everything and everyone. You feel the "I Am." The expressions on everyone's faces confirm that whatever they carried into the sweat lodge—fear, despair, disappointment, trauma, anger about the past, fear about the future—has been left at the fire, burned away. What remains is grace and forgiveness, even for those who may have wronged us in our human eyes and human minds. We find a way to heal that energy flow by stepping into our deepest spiritual healing for self. No matter the past, the future shines brighter when you see more of yourself and realize you are not alone. You have the support of angels, Ancestors, Galactic beings, and Loved ones who have left messages to be resilient and live life with grace, navigating challenges with an understanding of learning , teaching and just be.
"I'll Be Back," I told Rehielo, words from the movie Terminator, the day I left the "Sweat Lodge." I knew then that this was an experience I was meant to revisit yearly. And I have returned, bringing The Renaissance Soul Village with me. That journey has led to Part 2 of my Sedona experiences, and we are now preparing for our third return with The Renaissance Soul Village in October 2025 "We are Woke". A few spots remain. Will you join us on this sacred journey to self.
